(2 girls, Chloe and Milla.) We live in a world where the internet allows for such an instantaneous sharing of ideas and images, which is amazing, but I also think getting away from that is crucial.  </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="color: #262626;"> </span>So much of my work comes from my personal history and memories.  I grew up on Cape Cod.  The water and soft neutrals of the coastal landscape became so much a part of my sensibility.  I think that is one of the biggest influences for me.  My family also saves everything, so I was always surrounded by antiques.  My Mom has dresses from the 1920’s, beautiful hand painted china, and an attic full of interesting objects etc. We weren’t a family that never used the good china and silver – my mom taught us to live with these beautiful things.  Why have them if you aren’t going to use them?  She let us play with the antique dolls, even if we did play a little too roughly.  I think this idea of wanting to create product that is truly special, but also not so precious you can’t use it comes from my Mom.  My product have been made with a lot of care and attention – but are meant to be lived with, and can be thrown in the wash if they are dirty.</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><i><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Do you work from home? Office? Studio?</span></i></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Up until mid-March I worked out of our two bedroom apartment.  Now we’re settling into a studio in Sunset Park.  It was much needed to move the business out of our home! We could barely walk with all of the inventory, supplies, etc.  It’s pretty exciting to have a space of my own for the business and I’m excited to see where it will lead.  We’re in an area with a lot of other creatives which I’m loving.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><i><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Are you a city girl or a country girl?</span></i></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="text-align: left;"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">That is the question!  I live in Brooklyn, NY and so would consider myself a city girl…but I grew up in a small town on Cape Cod.  I really miss it there and find the quietness of the off-season so relaxing.  I am really looking forward to spending a week there in July.  Being close to the water is one of my favorite things.</span><br /><br /><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"><i>What are you reading right now?</i></span><br /><br /><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"></span><br /><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"> </span><br /><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">Remodelista</span></span></div><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";"> <div class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">reading my tea leaves</span></div><div class="MsoNormal"><span style="mso-fareast-font-family: "Times New Roman";">the goldfinch</span></div><i>  </i> </span></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; I took my first photography class around this time, and loved it. </span></div><br /><span style="font-size: 7.0pt;">      </span><br /><span style="font-size: 7.0pt;">  </span><i><span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">Where do you find inspiration?</span></i><br /><br />  <span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">I find inspiration all over the place: the internet of course, books, daydreams, and movies. And I get a ton of inspiration and encouragement from studying the work of successful, established artists- my husband Kai (also a painter) and I are amassing a collection of big, fancy art books/watching our bank accounts dwindle.</span><br />  <br /><span style="font-size: 7.0pt;">          </span><i><span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";"><br /></span></i><br /><i><span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">Do you work from home?  Office?  Studio?</span></i><br /><br />  <span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">My studio is right next to my home, in a tiny little guest house. We are hoping to move shortly to a home where both Kai and I can have bigger studios. Right now I have stacks of paintings everywhere, and am constantly tripping over things!</span><br /><br />  <span style="font-size: 7.0pt;"> </span><i><span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">Are you a City girl or a Country girl?</span></i><br /><br />  <span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">I am definitely a country girl! I grew up in LA, and went to college in Boston, and realized in my late twenties I am more and more happy the farther away I get from the hustle and bustle. I love open space, and spend most of my free time just spacing out, which is a lot easier to do when it is quiet and I am surrounded by nature, which I definitely am here, on the Sonoma coast.</span><br /><br />  <span style="font-size: 7.0pt;"> </span><i><span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">What are you reading right now?</span></i><br /><br />  <span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">I am on a naturalist kick! I just finished reading A Lady's life in the Rocky Mountains by Isabella Bird, and am currently listening to a John Muir audio book, but not doing so well because I seem to fall asleep about five minutes in every night. John Muir is really compelling, but the narrator has such a soothing drawl it's like instant slumber when I press play!</span><br /><br /><span style="font-family: "Georgia","serif";">Thank you again Clare!  I have fallen head over heals for her<a href="http://instagram.com/clareelsaesser" target="_blank"> Instagram</a> also..
